We’re only two weeks into the life of The Low Desert but there’s been…a lot. A lot of cool stuff. A lot of unexpected stuff. A lot of the cold rock stuff.* If you missed anything, here’s links to some of the most recent podcasts, interviews, feature stories, reviews, and even a playlist of songs to listen to when you’re driving through the desert at midnight.

TIME Magazine pretty much named me Man of the Year.

USA Today didn’t name me Man of the Year…but maybe of the week? For sure, of the season.

Publishers Weekly picks The Low Desert as the best book of the week!

Publishers Weekly also picked The Low Desert as one of the best books of the season!

And Publishers Weekly gave the book a giant, glowing star.

…and so did Kirkus.

Booklist surely meant to give me a star, but I guess maybe typo?

CrimeReads said very nice things about my book.

…and then CrimeReads let me write about some deeply fucked up things.

The Orange County Register (and then just about every newspaper in the state!) talked with me about how I came to write a collection of gangster stories…and when you might see Sal Cupertine again.

LitHub pinned me down with seven hard-hitting questions.

The Desert Sun wouldn’t let me off the hook.

Criminal Element said things that made me blush.

Set Lusting Bruce, a very cool podcast about Bruce Springsteen, had me on to talk about the Boss, crime writing, and all points in between.

Drinks with Tony hosted by my pal Tony Dushane had me visit to talk about…well, everything but my book.

Poisoned Pen Books had me over for a chat…from my office at home.

The La Quinta Public Library checked in with me about how I’ve been living.

Alta said things about my book that made me very happy.

Narrative Gunslingers had me talking about narrative influences.

Razorcake, the greatest punk rock magazine on the planet, reviewed my book and I felt like I was the lead singer Social Distortion.

Shelf Awareness made me want to buy my own book.

The Voice of Cassandre had me on to guest DJ on radio stations across Europe for the first week of February, which was awesome. You can hear everything I played right here. And here’s the tracklist:

Kyuss – Gardenia
The Mountain Goats – This Year
Songs: Ohia – I’ve Been Riding With the Ghost
Mary Born – Stay With Me
Jason Isbell – Songs That She Sang in the Shower
Los Lobos – When the Circus Comes

*The Cold Rock Stuff comes from a song you don’t know. But also, it was the name of the coolest column in Spin back in the day — the logo of which is right up there at the top of the page — where it listed all the bad ass new things on the planet.
